The Hidden Secrets of Jojoba Oil
With Mother’s Day just around the corner, and with many pondering over gift ideas, I thought it may be worthwhile this week to write about our Jojoba Co skincare range.
I love this range because not only is it a totally natural, ethical range it has a wonderful back story. The Jojoba Company approached us 11 years ago to stock their range. As with all new ranges, we always do our research. However, I was particularly interested in the history of this company. In 2008 Vicki Engsall co-founded the company with her father. The jojoba skincare range was inspired by her commitment to a ‘no nasties’ homelife – pure wholesome food, natural cleaning products and then her own natural skincare range. Even better, the jojoba plant was sourced from their own farm in the Riverina region, where they had created a plantation based on sustainability.
Vicki and her father were passionate about the jojoba plant, and particularly the small bean from the jojoba plant.
Fascinatingly, the jojoba bean produces an intensely pure liquid golden wax which is also call an ‘oil’. However, distinct from other oils, this liquid wax functions like our skin’s own natural oils. It has been found that the wax produced from the jojoba bean is similar to the protective wax produced by our skin. This wax produced by our skin enables our skin to remain moisturised. Unfortunately for us, this protective wax produced by our skin can, for various reasons becomes diminished which then leaves our skin looking somewhat dry, tired and dull.
This is where the wax (oil) produced by the jojoba seed can be so effective. Our skin recognises the wax (oil) to be similar to its own natural wax and because of this, the pores of our skin remain open, which very cleverly allows jojoba to penetrate beyond the top layer of our skin. It is in these deeper layers where cell regeneration and cell synthesis occur. This then enables better results for the health of our skin. Interestingly jojoba is the only plant on earth which is known to produce a wax similar to that found in young, healthy human skin.
It has been interesting to observe the Jojoba Company over the years expand their range to a full skin care range, which is hugely popular with our customers. Our customers have found the range to be helpful for wrinkles, stretch marks, dry and sensitive skin, sun damage, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, oily skin and age spots.
Many however wouldn’t be aware that jojoba oil is beneficial for many other skin conditions. Because jojoba contains antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and hypoallergenic properties, it can be helpful in calming and soothing scars, burns, rashes including eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, nappy rash, cradle cap and acne.
