Turmeric for Digestion and IBS

Turmeric for Digestion and IBS

Bev Dunne
If you’re a sufferer of gut and bowel problems, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to enjoy all that wonderful food during the festive season and not feel bloated, suffer from indigestion or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  Wouldn’t it be great to feel well and not be dogged by fatigue. When our digestive system is in balance we feel great and our energy seems endless however when it isn’t in balance it can be the cause of many health issues. It is obvious whilst ever our gut is not digesting our food, our body is not absorbing the nutrients it needs to sustain our health and wellbeing.

I’ve written several articles about the therapeutic benefits of turmeric especially when it comes to helping with inflammation, particularly arthritis.  Turmeric however may also be extremely beneficial for treatment of digestive issues especially Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).  IBS means our bowel is irritated and inflamed and can cause symptoms such as abdominal tenderness and pain, bloating and wind and often alternating constipation and diarrhea.

The question is often asked - why is my bowel and digestive system inflamed? It can be for several reasons, however frequently it is because our digestive system cannot cope with certain foods we are eating, which in turn causes an inflammatory action and the above symptoms.  Poor digestion and IBS is also often caused by stress.

When we look at the festive season and the foods we eat (and sometimes overeat!) plus the stress many experience, we really have the perfect conditions for poor digestion and an irritated bowel.  Add to that the overconsumption of sugar – yes, I think we can all put our hand up for that over Christmas! we really are testing our digestive system.  Consuming too much sugar can lead to inflammation of our digestive system which of course leads to all those IBS symptoms. Because of this inflammatory action it can also cause joint pain.

So how can we avoid these awful digestive issues over the festive season?  The obvious answer is to avoid all these foods which cause inflammation. It is inevitable however that most of us will be tempted to overindulge at some stage and eat foods which ordinarily we would avoid.

This is where our bio-fermented Turmeric formula is helpful. This formula contains Turmeric, Ginger, Black Pepper and Probiotics.  Adding Ginger to the Turmeric is beneficial as it can be helpful in aiding digestion and treatment of IBS symptoms.  The antispasmodic effect can also be helpful by relaxing the intestines when suffering from an IBS attack.

We know probiotics can be helpful in treating IBS and other digestive issues. Lactobacillus plantarum may help relieve symptoms such as abdominal pain and bloating.  It is however beneficial to take a combination of strains of probiotics to get the best results.

When suffering from digestive problems and IBS it is often difficult to absorb nutrients. Fermenting ensures far better absorption which is why I am a real fan of this bio-fermented Turmeric. I’m not the only fan of this formula.  After I wrote my first article on the benefits of bio-fermented Turmeric for IBS and digestive disorders, we received extremely good feedback from many customers about the positive results they have gained since taking this formula.  One customer returned to tell me she had suffered from IBS, Crohn’s Disease and Diverticulitis for 25 years. 24 hours after taking bio-fermented Turmeric her symptoms had subsided.  She was no longer going to the toilet constantly, her bowel can now form stools and she was no longer constantly tired. She takes 15ml a day and won’t ever be without it.  What a wonderful result for this lady!!
