Last week I wrote about the justified concerns regarding the toxicity some cosmetic ranges. This concern also arises when it comes to skincare ranges. It is logical that we need to care for our skin, by not coating it with chemicals which unfortunately are often contained in some skin care products. After all, our skin is our largest organ and those chemicals can be absorbed into other organs, via our skin.
As with our cosmetic ranges, we have stocked several skin care ranges over the years. One however really stood out. The Jojoba Co approached us 9 years ago to stock their range. As with all new ranges, we always did our research. This company had a wonderful back story. In 2008 Vicki Engsall co-founded the company with her father. They started the company at the same time as she was starting her family. The jojoba skincare range was inspired by her commitment to a ‘no nasties’ homelife – pure wholesome food, natural cleaning products and then her own natural skincare range. Even better, their jojoba came from their own farm in the Riverina region, where they had created a plantation based on sustainability.
Vicki and her father were passionate about the jojoba plant, and particularly the small bean from the jojoba plant.
This jojoba bean produces an intensely pure liquid golden wax which is also called an ‘oil’. However, distinct from other oils this liquid wax functions like our skin’s own natural oils. It has been found that the wax produced from the jojoba bean is similar to the protective wax produced by our skin. This wax produced by our skin enables our skin to remain moisturised. Unfortunately for us, this protective wax produced by our skin can, for various reasons become diminished which then leaves our skin looking somewhat dry, tired and dull.
This is where the wax (oil) produced by the jojoba seed can be so effective. Our skin recognises jojoba wax (oil) to be similar to its own natural wax and because of this, the pores of our skin remain open, which very cleverly allows jojoba to penetrate beyond the top layer of our skin. It’s in these deeper layers where cell regeneration and cell synthesis occurs. This then enables better results for the health of our skin. Interestingly, jojoba is the only plant on earth which is known to produce a wax similar to that found in young, healthy human skin.
The Jojoba Co over the years has expanded their range to a full skin care range, which is hugely popular amongst our customers. It’s helpful for wrinkles, stretch marks, dry and sensitive skin, sun damage, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, oily skin and age spots.
Many however wouldn’t be aware that jojoba oil is also beneficial for many other skin conditions. Because jojoba contains antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and hypoallergenic properties it can be helpful in calming and soothing scars, burns, rashes including eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, nappy rash, cradle cap and acne.
Next week on Super Tuesday, 4 December 2018, a representative from the Jojoba Company will be joining us to chat about their range and which products might suit your particular needs
