How is carob powder made?

Carobs are grown on a tree and look like a big brown snow pea pod.

The carobs are then separated from the pod, roasted and finely milled.

Australian quality is far superior to imported carob and is much sweeter as well.

Carob powder is a perfect substitute for cocoa or cacao in recipes. You can add carob in a 1: 1 ratio in any recipe that calls for cacao, keeping in mind that it is naturally sweet so you should be able to reduce the sugar.

Make hot carob drinks or add to baking or icing, carob is a perfect addition to pancakes, muffins or smoothies.
