Over the years I’ve often written articles on the health benefits of green powders such as barley grass, wheat grass and spirulina. One green powder I haven’t written about is Chlorella. Chlorella is this incredible nutrient-dense freshwater algae that contains loads of nutrients including antioxidants, omega-3 fats, vitamins and minerals. It’s also a complete protein source containing all 9 essential amino acids. It’s believed to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.

Chlorella grows with a hard cell wall, protecting the nutrients found within the Chlorella molecule. This hard cell wall makes digestion of Chlorella difficult which is why many companies grind the Chlorella into a powder. It is thought this grinding process may cause oxidation of the Chlorella as well as deplete the nutrients.
