Nutritious Tasty Recipes For Kids

Bev Dunne

Last week I wrote about the benefits of protein in our diet. We need to be mindful that children also need sufficient protein in their diet. So often we have parents visiting our store, worried because their children are fussy eaters and they’re not sure how best to ensure they have sufficient nutrients in their diet. FUNCH Kid-POW Protein Shakes are a great way to top up those nutrients.  Just add milk and their favourite fruits to the protein shake powders to make a smoothie or try the following recipes for something different.

As with adults, quite often our children have a diet high in carbohydrates, with very little protein.  Here’s a recipe which can not only top off on nutrients, but also, just as importantly, protein.

Ingredients: 1/3 cup FUNCH Caramel kid-POW Shake; 2 cups Natural Road almond meal; ½ cup almond milk; 1 tbsp Natural Road xylitol; 1 tsp bi carb soda; ½ tsp vanilla essence.

Method: Preheat oven to 180C. Line tray with baking paper, Combine dry ingredients in a bowl, add almond milk and vanilla mixing until just combined. Scoop 1 tbsp of protein cookie mixture and roll into a ball. Place on the tray and gently flatten. Bale for 12 minutes or until lightly golden.

This is a smoothie that tastes just like a cheesecake (yum!)  with tons of nutrients – protein, probiotics, calcium, iron and more. It’s more like a dessert than a smoothie.

Ingredients: 6 scoops FUNCH Vanilla Kid-POW Shake; 2 cups Organic Road coconut cream; 1 mango cheek; ½ cup Organic Road raw cashews.

Method: Place all ingredients in a blender, blending until smooth. Pour into 2 cups. Enjoy!

Ingredients: 6 scoops FUNCH Chocolate Kid-POW Shake; 2 cups milk of choice; 1 cup ice; 1 cup strawberries and handful mint

Method: Place all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and enjoy!
