Aromatherapy - A Great Gift Idea

Aromatherapy - A Great Gift Idea

Bev Dunne

If you’re agonising over your Christmas gift list, trying to find something just that little bit different, I encourage you to look at our display of aromatherapy products in store. Aromatherapy is hugely popular, and with good reason.  Aromatherapy isn’t just about the lovely aroma emitted from essential oils.  These aromas released from essential oils contain many therapeutic benefits, enhancing our physical and psychological wellbeing.

Essential oils are available as single oils or as a blend.  Blending individual oils can be rewarding and can create a more powerful effect than using single oils.  We have available in store, free booklets with blending suggestions.

The question then arises – how you use these essential oils for the best benefit? Essential oils can be added to a base oil such as almond oil for massage or added to your bath water. They can be inhaled from a bowl of hot steamy water, added to a bottle of water, and spritzed or just applied to a tissue.

Aromatherapy Diffusers

Aromatherapy diffusers are probably the most popular means of using aromatherapy.  These diffusers not only look great but are also very effective as they disperse the oils throughout the whole room. In the past essential oils were often dispersed by using an oil burner, however overheating can burn the oils, depleting their therapeutic benefit. Ultrasonic diffusers work on vibration which lifts the oil and water into micro-particles, dispersing into the air as cool mist.  These particles are then breathed in, delivering various health benefits.

Diffusers can also act as an ioniser.  Micro-particles are dispersed as negatively charged ions, attaching to, and cancelling out harmful positive ions which can cause tiredness, tension, and anxiety. As we know positive ions are often emitted from electronic devices which unfortunately are everywhere including in our homes and workplaces.

Diffusers can also act as a humidifier as the cool mist adds moisture to the air without causing condensation or mould.  They can also be used as an air purifier.  Certain oils are antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-fungal.  Diffusing these oils into the air can eliminate germs and odours, which in turn freshens and neutralises your home.

Using a diffuser as a night light can be helpful for sleeping, especially when used in conjunction with a blend of oils specifically for sleeping.

Some of the more popular Springfield Aromatherapy blends we sell are-

Australian Bush Scents combining Lemon Myrtle, Nerolina and Rosalina. These three oils create a lovely fresh uplifting, Australian bush aroma. It is by far one of our most popular essential oil blends.

Sweet Dreams combining Marjoram, Sandalwood, Roman Chamomile, Lavender, and Rose Geranium oils creates a gentle, calming effect and is a blend we receive very positive feedback for sleeping.

Spirit of Woman is another popular blend containing Ylang Ylang, Rose Geranium, Rosewood, Peru Balsam, Palmarosa and Rose. The aroma from these oils exudes femininity with a beautiful combination of rose and floral aromas.

Goddess also contains oils emitting a more feminine aroma. These oils include Jasmine, Tuberose, Violet Leaf, Rosewood, Cedarwood, Rose Geranium and Tangerine.

Love creates a more striking and seductive aroma with oils including Ylang Ylang, Lime, Rose Geranium, Orange, and Patchouli.

Sanctuary is a classic blend containing Lavender, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang, Sweet Orange and Geranium creating a feeling of ambience and relaxation.

Vitality containing Bergamot, Lime, Grapefruit and May Chang creates an uplifting and refreshing aroma.

These are just a few of the blends we have in store. We also have an expansive range of individual essentials oils if you wish to blend your own oils and only use an individual oil such as lavender, sandalwood etc.

BYRON BAY CANDLES

Another option when looking for a Christmas gift may be one of our lovely Byron Bay hand-poured pure soy wax scented candles or reed diffusers. Byron Bay Candles is a family run business with a team of creative artisans working on this lovely range which includes aromas such as –

Beach Holiday; Coconut Lime; Japanese Honeysuckle; Lime Basil Mandarin; Lotus Flower; Sandalwood Vanilla and Caramel Vanilla.

These candles are displayed in a lovely glass container and unlike most scented candles, when the candle has burnt down, refill candles are available which means you can reuse your glass jar over and over again.

These candles are made from all natural ingredients which means they are free from toxic ingredients such as petroleum-based paraffin waxes and paraben enhancers which may have adverse effects on our health.

I also love the Byron Bay Fragrant Reed Diffusers as it means the aroma is diffused throughout the house 24/7.  Even when I arrive home after a holiday and the house has been locked up, there is there welcoming aroma wafting through the house when I arrive home.  Once again reed diffuser refills are also available which means the diffuser jar can be reused which is a cost saving.
