I have written previously about the health benefits of maca root powder, particularly in relation to libido, menopause symptoms and energy. It may be surprising therefore to find maca root has been included in the Inika skin care range. Maca is a powerful ingredient which is believed to assist in increasing collagen production and deter free radical damage. Maca root has been found to be not only high in Vitamin C but also other fatty acids, amino acids and essential minerals. There has also been an early study indicating maca root extract when applied topically to the skin may protect our skin from UV radiation and skin damage (1).

Resveratrol is another product I have written about previously because of its health benefits especially as an antioxidant. Because of these antioxidant qualities, Inika have included Resveratrol in their Resveratrol Night Cream as well as their Resveratrol Eye Cream and Resveratrol Serum. Resveratrol is extracted from grapes and is rich in polyphenols. It is also believed to assist in slowing down the signs of ageing. These antioxidant properties help to neutralise free radicals to retain skin structure and increase collagen production.

Another unique ingredient included in the Inika range is the Australian native plant extract known as Caviar Lime. Because it is abundant in natural AHA’s, Caviar Lime is included in the Inika Exfoliator. AHA’s are water-soluble acids made from sugary fruits which assist in peeling away the surface of our skin so that new skin cells can generate to replace old cells.
